ANYONE watching the new Sky Sports advert promoting the new season and marking the 125th anniversary of the Football League might have blinked twice when they noticed Bridport’s Tom Burt on their screen.
Tom who is an avid Glovers fan was asked to take part in the 30 second ad featuring supporters from a number of league clubs around the country, and makes a short appearance with the words, ‘Little Yeovil Town,’ referring to the clubs promotion to the Championship last season despite the town having one of the smallest population’s of any of the 72 league clubs.
Sky were looking for fans to help make the promotional ad, and contacted David Munn, a member of the Yeovil Town Disabled Supporters Association, and he invited Tom and some other disabled fans to take part.
Tom is the founder member of the Green & White Supporters Club (Bridport branch) then spent the day at Huish Park with a recording team from Sky Sports who asked him a few questions about his love of the club, from which they chose the sound bite which appears in the ad.
“It was a very interesting and enjoyable day and something I was not expecting.”
There is a healthy Glovers fan club in Bridport with around 50 members, and Tom organises trips to many of the club’s away games.
Last season, with generous support from local organisations and individuals, Bridport fans were able to travel to around 15 of the 23 games as well as to Wembley to see the League One Play-Off Final, some 5,500 miles.
With fuel it costs its around £150 for a minibus to an away game, and so they are extremely grateful to their sponsors who help with financial support. Travelling numbers vary depending on supporters’ commitments between around 20 and 40, but they all have a great time, and are keen to expand their numbers.
If there is anyone who would like to join them, or indeed anyone who would like to sponsor them, they can contact Tom on 01308 456145 or 07971 096662.
