Pride of Britain – Grassroots Football Champion Awards
England legend Michael Owen is leading the quest to honour football’s unsung heroes by launching this special Award in conjunction with The Football Association. Introduced to mark the 150th anniversary of The FA, this Award will recognise one of the hundreds of thousands of unsung volunteers who tirelessly champion the national game all over the UK, ordinary people of all ages who give others, some of whom are disadvantaged or disabled, an opportunity to improve and enrich their lives through football. Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 8th September 2013.
“Whether it be referees, coaches or managers, all footballers are indebted to those people. None of us could get to the top without the start we had.” But grassroots football is about so much more than giving the game’s superstars their first break. Our Award winner may be someone who coaches disabled players, or has turned their life around through football, or used the game to transform their community.
