Newport County AFC becomes Wales’ first dementia friendly football league club

Colin Faulkner, Chairman of the club’s Disabled Supporters Association (DSA) said: “The award is just the start and comes with a commitment to increase awareness of dementia.”

For some disabled fans, match day is the only time that they will brave the anxiety that can accompany outings for them.  Colin said “It is vital therefore we make the club an environment where they can continue to do what they love.”

“The plan is by the end of the season all Board Members, staff and volunteers will have attended a Dementia Friends Information Session and have some knowledge to recognise and understand potential signs of dementia and be able to lend support to those people, whether at a game or in the wider community”.
