London Stadium start for new regional forum tour

Disabled fans, club representatives and other key stakeholders from across sports came together at London Stadium for the Level Playing Field South Forum.

The event started a new cycle for regional forums, which the charity will take to the Midlands, the North and Wales in 2025.

The role of personal assistants/companions was a focus for the day, with an opportunity for attendees to share experiences and case studies while networking.

Transport For All led a session as guest speakers, as the charities look to work together to combat the impact of inaccessible public transport as a rising barrier to attending live sport.

Level Playing Field chief executive, Owain Davies, said: “At the Level Playing Field South Forum, I was pleased to see some of the strongest engagement in the room we have ever had.

“That shows the value of these events and that we are tackling subjects which really matter to disabled fans and other stakeholders, even when they can be challenging to discuss.

“I would like to give a huge thanks to the team at West Ham, for hosting us and helping to put on spectacular event, as well as Transport for All and West Ham United Disabled Supporters’ Association, for the insight they offered on the day.

“These opportunities for discussion between disabled fans and staff, from across different sports and divisions, provide great opportunities to learn and also presents us with different perspectives to inform our ongoing work.”

Co-chair and Co-founder of the West Ham United Disabled Supporters Board, Cathy Bayford, said: “It was a pleasure to host the Level Playing Field forum at London Stadium.

“Not only have we taken part in workshops and discussions, but it has also given us the opportunity to showcase the world of the Disabled Supporters Association and highlight the robust relationship our Disabled Supporters Board has with West Ham United. This was evident as we listed some of the initiatives we have seen implemented with us working with the Club to improve the matchday experience for fans with accessibility issues.”

Level Playing Field will soo share details on upcoming regional forums, which will next head to the Midlands.
