Liverpool Disabled Committee Member Volunteers for UEFA

Steve Evans who is a disabled committee member on the Disabled Supporters Association at Liverpool FC was selected to represent UEFA at the recent Champions League Final at Wembley in which Borussia Dortmund took on the mighty Bayern Munchen.

Steve went through a rigorous selection process, including an interview with a UEFA official from Switzerland. Resulting from this he landed a fantastic opportunity to be a Transport Co-ordinator for TV VIPs at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in London.

Steve spent a week at the hotel in the build-up to the final and in the aftermath on the Sunday, to ensure all UEFA representatives and their partners had transport to hand to travel to the various UEFA official events that were happening all over London in that week. This included transport to and from Wembley on the night of the match, and transportation to the relevant airports on the Sunday. This was a mammoth task, in which he was helped by three other like-minded volunteers. They assisted VIPs from UEFA, Sky Sports, ITV, Fox Sports, Ford, Heineken and others, as well as guests including Sir Alex Ferguson, Pierluigi Collina, the great Eusebio and Oliver Kahn the former Bayern Munchen goalkeeper and many more besides.

Steve enjoyed his role very much, and he and the other 399 volunteers were rewarded with a farewell party on the Sunday, after most official guests had departed. This was at the new build Civic Centre overlooking Stadium. They also received a few ‘goodies’ courtesy of UEFA as a thank you!

Steve wishes to thank UEFA for giving him this great experience.
