Derbyshire County Cricket Club have confirmed the appointment of Disability Liaison Officer, Lily Smith, one of the first Cricket clubs to appoint a DLO.

It’s the club’s first recruitment in this role and is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to making cricket in Derbyshire accessible to all, paving the way in cricket across the country.

“Cricket is a game for everyone, and Derbyshire are one of the first cricket clubs to appoint a Disability Liaison Officer, as part of the Club’s continuing effort to make cricket safe and accessible for all to enjoy,” Derbyshire’s club website read.

Lily told Level Playing Field development officer Daniel Townley: “I think the thing we wanted to highlight by introducing this position is that we want cricket to be alongside other sports in making the environment fun, safe and importantly, accessible for everyone.

“We have quite a lot of school groups join us, often with different care and accessibility needs and we need to continue to be able to support and cater for these groups and be a go to venue for them to know that everyone will be looked at after.”

The club’s statement on the website also revealed plans are underway to install new toilets at the ground, including additional accessible toilets, while dedicated accessible viewing bays will be a new addition for the 2023 season to ensure supporters with accessibility needs have an unobstructed view of the outfield.

Derbyshire have also launched a disabled supporter information page, which will act as a hub for all information that disabled supporters will need ahead of a visit to The Incora County Ground.
