LPF is delighted to announce the appointment of a new CAFE Director and Trustee and Vice President at Level Playing Field – David Davies OBE
David Davies OBE served The Football Association through 13 often turbulent years as its Executive Director until his retirement in 2006. He worked closely with England managers Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan and Sven Goran Eriksson, and is well known in football at home and abroad, where he has held various positions at UEFA and FIFA. In 2010 he was Senior Advisor to the CEO of the South Africa FIFA World Cup, Dr Danny Jordaan.
Today David is a Sports and Media Consultant with roles inside and outside football including work with Lord Sebastian Coe on the international legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics of which he was an early champion. He was also a founder member of the anti racism “Kick It Out” campaign.
Davies’ early career was spent as a Presenter / Correspondent with BBC Television and he regularly contributes to radio and television programmes today. He was awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to sport.
In announcing Davies’ appointments to both CAFE and LPF, CAFE Chairman and LPF President David Bernstein CBE said: “David is a tremendous addition to both organisations in helping us to highlight the many issues still faced by disabled fans. He is extremely well respected within football, sports and media circles across the globe and his experience and knowledge will be invaluable in our continued works to seek fair and proper provisions for disabled people who wish to enjoy live sports. We are delighted to welcome David to the team”.
David Davies OBE said: “I am honoured to have been invited to join both charities, having long admired the work they do. Disabled people are entitled to the rich array of experiences that sports offer and that others may take for granted. That can only happen within a framework of true inclusion and accessibility and I am very much looking forward to adding my support.”
David joins President David Bernstein CBE and fellow LPF Honorary Officers including Lords Faulkner and Rosser.
