World Cup assistant referee Mike Mullarkey becomes ECDSA Ambassador

Exeter City Disabled Supporters Association (ECDSA) are delighted to announce that Premier League and FIFA Assistant Referee Mike Mullarkey has accepted the invitation to become the organisation’s Ambassador.

Committee members recently met with Mike to explain the ECDSA’s history, past achievements and vision for the future.

ECDSA was set up in 2007 in order to improve the matchday experience of disabled supporters at St James Park, for both home supporters and our visitors.  During that time, the organisation have made countless changes for the better around the club through independent fundraising, including the recent addition of windbreaks to the front of the disabled bays inside the St James Park stadium.

Mike, who ran the line in the 2010 World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands, is again officiating at the 2014 World Cup along with fellow Assistant Referee Darren Cann and Referee Howard Webb.

Exeter City fan Mike said: “I have been privileged to enjoy a wonderful career being involved in football at the highest level.  I was thrilled to be invited to be an Ambassador for the ECDSA, which will allow me to give something back to the game.

“Football should be accessible to and enjoyed by all and I am delighted to be able to play a small part in helping to further develop the excellent work that the Association has been doing since it was formed in 2007.”

ECDSA Chairman Nick Saunders said: “We are absolutely delighted and honoured that Mike, a ‘local lad’, has kindly agreed to become our Ambassador.

“With Mike being involved in the professional game at an extremely high level, I’m sure he will be able to help us in many ways in our quest to make St James Park fully accessible for all supporters with disabilities as well as supporting us as an association with other things we do for our membership and Exeter City Football Club.”

ECDSA and Exeter City would like to wish Mike the best of luck on his forthcoming World Cup in Brazil.
