LPF supports World Cancer Day 2016

World Cancer Day is a truly global event, uniting the world’s population in the fight against cancer.

We all know somebody who has been affected by cancer at some stage in their lives, and the aim of World Cancer Day is to save millions of preventable deaths each year by raising awareness and education about the disease, pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action.

World Cancer Day was established by the Paris Charter adopted at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris on 4 February 2000.

The Charter was aimed at the promotion of the research for curing as well as preventing the disease, upgrading the provided services to the patients, the sensitisation of the common opinion and the mobilisation of the global community against cancer.

Currently, 8.2 million people die from cancer worldwide every year. World Cancer Day is the ideal opportunity to spread the word and raise the profile of cancer in people’s minds and in the world’s media.

According to equality legislation in many countries, cancer is recognised as a disability.

LPF encourages our networks to support World Cancer Day 2016 and join the discussion on social media using the hashtag #WorldCancerDay. Visit http://www.worldcancerday.org/ for further information.
