LPF supports World AIDS Day 2015

Today is World AIDS Day 2015, and this year’s theme is ‘The Time To Act is Now’.

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. If left untreated, HIV can lead to the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). It is estimated that around 37 million people worldwide are currently living with HIV / AIDS. The vast majority of people living with HIV are in low and middle-income countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. Around 3.2 million children worldwide are living with HIV.

This year’s World AIDS Day focuses on celebrating the tremendous progress made in expanding access to HIV prevention, treatment, and care services, and focus on the potential to achieve sustainable epidemic control and end AIDS as a public health threat. ‘The Time to Act Is Now’ looks to the future and demonstrates the urgent need for action today.

LPF supports World AIDS Day 2015, and you can find out more by visiting http://www.worldaidsday.org/. Activities from around the world are also being shared on social media using the hashtag #WorldAIDSDay.
