Inspire Me MENCAP visit LFC DSA

The MENCAP Inspire Me Project provides practical activities, training and community learning to give young people aged 14-25 with a learning disability the opportunity to build their confidence, learn new life skills and change their lives by developing skills and changing attitudes in society.

As part of the project, a group of Young Ambassadors and NW Regional Co-ordinator, Julie Steers recently visited Liverpool DSA at Anfield to present on the subject of Changing Places.

Stephen Evans, LDSA Committe member tells us more:

“The group presented a part each as to why a ‘Changing Places’ facility is essential. Also included in this was an illustrated picture drawn by the group, designed to make people aware of the problems associated with not having these facilities.

This was the second time they had visited Anfield recently to look at our disabled facilities, and see the progress the club are making to ensure they do their upmost to make life easier for disabled people and comply with regulations. Since their last visit, a Changing Places Toilet is in the process of being built within the stadium and will hopefully be completed and ready for use by the beginning of the new 2014/15 season.”

“We received very positive feedback from the Young Ambassadors as follows:”

Richard Harnetty: “It was a privilege and an honour to be invited along to LFC to do our ‘Changing Places’ campaign presentation.”

Mo Evans: “The committee were really friendly and they said we had given an ‘inspiring and thought provoking’ presentation. Even though LFC are a very big club they gave us their time and made us feel very welcome and very important.”

Sally Anne Kane: “Our presentation was very received positively. We were very pleased that the club were open and friendly to us.”

Connagh McHugh: “We were first invited to share our views on the ‘Changing Places’ campaign a short time ago. We came back and spoke to the LDSA committee. They enjoyed hearing how important we felt a ‘Changing Places’ room was and they felt the same. We had a brilliant afternoon and we think LFC are the best ever!”

Carly McDonald: “We were very excited to go along to Anfield. We met people who help look after the supporters who have a disability, and these people are very important to them. We were told the committee would like to speak to us and they did. Liverpool Football club are the best to all their supporters.”
