Harrogate Town celebrate accessibility developments

Harrogate Town AFC are partnering with charity Disability Action Yorkshire to improve access and inclusion for disabled fans at the CNG Stadium.

Over the last few seasons Harrogate have invested in making the CNG stadium more accessible to disabled fans, and with the help of funding from the Football Foundation’s Football Stadia Improvement Fund, the covered Sterling Motors stand can now accommodate up to 20 wheelchair users on matchdays.

The club now plan to continue this work and have announced a partnership with Disability Action Yorkshire who will provide feedback and expertise to further improve access and inclusion for disabled supporters.

The first step was to invite wheelchair users and customers of Disability Action Yorkshire to watch the ‘Sulphurites’ home fixture against Nuneaton Town free of charge on 27th August, where they were able to provide the club with invaluable insight into improving their services and faciltiies for disabled fans.

Daniel McGeachie, Head of Communications, said: “It is a key goal of ours to make The CNG stadium a true community facility, one that welcomes all and gives disabled people the confidence to come along to home games. Since the end of the last season we have been working hard to make these important alterations.”

“If we are to achieve our long-term goals of growing our supporter base, then making the ground as accessible and welcoming as possible has to be high on our agenda”

Disability Action Yorkshire Trustee Andrew Newton said: “It is great news that Harrogate Town sees the value of making its ground truly inclusive and accessible, and this is to be applauded.”

“Having invested in these facilities, I am delighted they have come to Disability Action Yorkshire and are offering wheelchair users the opportunity to test these improvements for ourselves, and to give our honest opinion.”
