Lord Low wants to hear from you
Lord Low has been asked by Leonard Cheshire Disability and Mencap to chair an independent review into the mobility needs of people living in residential care.
As you know, the Welfare Reform Bill contains powers to remove the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, soon to become Personal Independence Payment, from people living in state-funded residential care. The mobility component enables thousands of disabled people to go to the shops, visit family or socialise with friends. Without it we are worried people will become trapped in their own homes.
The Government is currently carrying out an internal review into how personal mobility needs are met and funded. This is a really important issue and we are worried that the Government’s internal review does not give the opportunity for you to contribute. The Low Review gives you this chance to have your voice heard.
To ensure that the review considers everyone’s views we need you to respond to the call for evidence. You can either email your views to info@lowreview.org.uk or fill in the call for evidence online. The deadline is 10 October 2011.
The results of the review will be published at the end of October and key recommendations will be made to the Government. Please do get in touch with the Low Review if you have any questions by emailing info@lowreview.org.uk or calling 020 3242 0373 .
