Match Buddies takes a partnership approach to matching disabled people with a ‘buddy’ who has a shared passion for sport to simply enjoy the game, the socialising and the atmosphere together, just like anyone else.
For example, the Never Watch Alone Initiative in Wigan works with the Learning Disability Partnership Board, local charity Embrace, Wigan Athletic Football Club and Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club to make this happen.
Would you like to be part of looking to develop a Match Buddies type scheme in your area?
Do you miss attending live sports because you would like to go with a buddy and haven’t found one?
Can you suggest people who should be on our list to contact across England and Wales? We are particularly looking for people or organisations who can help to get our information sent out as widely as possible to disabled or sports interested groups.
To find out more or to tell us about your experience as a disabled sports fan, contact us on 01923 545 370 or email info@levelplayingfield.org.uk
The Level Playing Field Match Buddies project is currently on hold while we try to secure further funding or sponsorship.
If you are interested in the programme and would like to establish the project at your club or DSA please get in touch.
In the meantime, if you would like to be kept informed of any progress, please email us with the heading “Match Buddies Project” and we’ll be in touch as soon as we have news.
