Match: Barrow vs York City

Published: 26/9/2016

Prior to match I tried to phone to book a wheelchair space, unfortunately the phones weren’t answered so I emailed them

I also asked if there were any disabled parking spaces. Emailing me back I got prompt replies from Steve who booked me a wheelchair space and a parking space. Thanks Steve.

Prior to match we ate at a Brewers Fayre pub nearby.

Arriving at ground we were shown to our parking space by a steward who seemed to be expecting us. I went into reception to pay for our tickets & was told to go to the ticket office round the corner. This was wheelchair friendly and also adjoined to the club shop & reception which was also wheelchair friendly,   There seemed to be a bit of confusion over our tickets but staff were really nice & very apologetic. Eventually I got a wheelchair ticket for away supporters although we could have sat with the home fans.

A steward took us through a gate into the ground and took us pitchside to the away wheelchair enclosure, and also came at the end of the match & took us back the same way.

The disabled enclosure, pitchside, was large enough for several wheelchairs, but we were the only ones there.  No seating for carers who had to stand, and as this was alongside the main stand, in the corner, there was no cover & there was a bitterly cold wind.    The toilets & refreshment bars were up steps, so not accessible.

A good view of the ground except we couldn’t see one corner, and the players warm up in front of us.

Leaving the ground only took a few minutes as traffic wasn’t bad.  But a couple of our supporters coaches, one in front of us and one behind were attacked by yobs not far from the ground and windows were smashed and several fans were badly cut  by the bricks and glass and were taken to hospital.
