Trustee Nominees standing for 2011 election

Please see the following list of selected nominees that are being proposed to the members for election to the board of trustees.

Rex Burton

I am a 65 year old retired consultant car body design engineer, working for all the major UK car manufacturers over the years. I was very involved with playing, and organising, football in my younger days until an accident put an end to it.
I have now been registered disabled for more than 25 years with two replacement hips. I wanted to get back into football in some way, so I decided the best thing I could do was to take an active roll in the issues that disabled fans face within football. I became a member of the Milton Keynes Dons Supporters Association, and progressed to become part of the committee 5 years ago. I have been their Disability Officer for the past 4 years where I have had very close contact with all the board of directors at the club while successfully negotiating on behalf of disabled MK Dons supporters.
The work for disabled people needs to be continued at all levels within sport, and I hope I can in some way help that to.

Ron Cassidy

Ron Cassidy recently retired after 40 years in the Anglican ministry. A life-long football fanatic, Ron lives in Manchester, and serves as the Disability Liaison Officer for Oldham Athletic. When Latics are away, Ron visit’s a number of grounds in the North West, always weighing up carefully their disabled provision. Ron is also a jazz fan, and is a frequent visitor to New Orleans.
When not watching football or listening to jazz (or chasing his grandchildren around) Ron spends his time writing articles and books, a number of which have sold well.

Keith Graham

I had been a serving Police officer for 29 years until a road traffic accident in 2003, and am presently 60yrs of age. My expertise lay in policing of big football matches and Health and Safety matters. I am a big Liverpool fan and follow them both home and away. I have been a board member of NADS since 2008, at present carry out two specific rolls as Fund Raiser and Google Alerts operator. I am the chair of the Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association.

Leigh Hutchings

I’m blind and lost my vision gradually, so I understand the problems with various levels of eyesight.
I volunteer for different disability groups and charities, in roles from chairman of Trustees, company director and committee member, including Borough and County council’s committees dealing with Equality.
I’ve attended training courses to improve my knowledge in related areas where I thought my knowledge was not strong enough.

Janet Ireland

I am 67 and although not disabled I enjoy my involvement with NADS. I have been Trustee since 1998 and Treasurer since 1999. I am a Sheffield United fan and founder and secretary of the Sheffield United Disabled Supporters Club.

Christine Peacock

I work as the Accessibility and Safeguarding Officer at Blackburn Rovers FC and have served as Governor and Trustee of the local school whilst helping to raise funds for good causes!
I became carer to my late husband following a life-debilitating stroke. We were avid football fans and his desire to go to a match enabled me to recognise how important football is to many disabled people as it can help rebuild lives.
We became members of Blackburn Rovers Disabled Supporters’ Club where I served for 10 years. My efforts, noticed by the Club, led to my appointment as their Disability Liaison Officer in 2007. In recognition of voluntary and public service I was awarded an MBE in 2007.

Tony Taylor

Tony Taylor has been involved at both local and national levels with supporter organisations over the years. As a result of disability, he has become increasingly aware of the problems faced by disabled supporters and is keen to apply his knowledge of the industry to LPF. He has served as a Trustee for the past year, which has included work on the Newsletter. Professionally, he is involved with training and development work.
